New install method for Debian-Seeking testers

Greetings all,

There has been some discussion regarding difficulty with using the DD command to flash the WebDT with a pre-built Linux image.

I have taken one of quotaholic's Debian images and converted it to a Clonezilla image.

I have modified the image, removing a lot of driver files.  This freed up about 70MB, leaving 30% of the internal drive free.

Please let me know using this thread if anything does not work.

This will wipe out the entire drive.  It will format and install Debian with LXDE.  Please backup any important data, and Operating system if you wish to go back.

This is a bootable .iso file.  There are instructions and the .isohere.

I'll bite, since I can't get quotaholic's image to boot once installed onto my machines.

Looking at your instructions, you state to burn it out to a CD. Is it possible to write it to a memory key and boot that way?

Does the backlight control work in this image?

Thanks.

I'm not sure about using a USB key it is just an .iso file.  I just use CD-RW media to save on wasted disks.  I'll check the Clonezilla documents to see if using a USB key is a viable option for future images.

Screen brightness works with the third hard button and D-pad.  This button is also programmed to launch Opera browser, just a minor inconvenience.

I have checked the Clonezilla docs.  It is possible to create a recovery option using USB.  This would require more work for the user though.  It may defeat the purpose of making it easy for users to flash Linux onto their DT.  Users would have to create the bootable image first using these instructions.

It is easy on my end to create both the .iso and .zip, future versions I'll post both and let the user choose.

I would like to make the E17 image next.

I have confirmed this will not work with the DT366-LX800.  This is mostly due to different video, which is even pickier than the GX version.

I am building a new image for my LX800, which I'll convert to a Clonezilla image.  Fortunately Clonezilla has created an Ubuntu based version, as I could not get the Debian version to boot any video mode on the LX.

Code: Select all

video=ofonly
has worked for me on every operating system so far on the LX800-366. Looks like thats about the only kernel parameter you didn't try.
