bios setting

How do I change BIOS setting for my Dell laptop for battery calibration.? I just bought a new laptop battery and won't accept it the way it is. I was told to update battery BIOS setting. How do I do this? Please give me step by step. It is right type of battery and fits but needs to be calibrated. I ordered online and waste to send it back and losing postage when I know it should be compatible with my model as it says so.
