You can't run WIN98 on a DT366. If you have a GX processor then use Windows CE. If you have the LX processor then use Windows XP Embedded. There are versions of Windows XP that have been trimmed down that can also be run. You have to search the web for XP LITE or MICROXP and download one of those hacked versions to run on these tablets with only 500mb of storage. If you upgrade the flash drive to 2GB or more then you can install XP PRO or XP Tablet Edition - a 4GB module would be best for storage.

Good luck.

Micro XP is Microsoft XP PRO but it's been trimmed down so much that it takes a lot of work to get it going CORRECTLY on the DT366. You can make your own trimmed down copy of XP with a tool called NLITE ( http://www.nliteos.com/ ). There are a lot of discussions on this forum about it - check it out.

I understand the desire to stay with Microsoft genuine products and if that's what you want then use XP Embedded.

Let me know your tablet specs and I can give you additional info specific to your device.

Try reading the instructions and through the forum. NLITE will reduce XP to under 300mb and that makes it fit in your 500mb flash drive. I have done it many, many times.

Or try PUPPY LINUX - you can have great luck with that too. Read the forum for info on that too.

Good luck!

Look at the guide here:
http://nliteos.com/guide/part3.html
The third screen image from the top you will see the section labeled "Requirements". You should set those to "DISABLED" so that XP will not run that check for HDD space or memory.

What is happening is there is not enough space to install everything you have selected in your NLITE version of XP.

Two ways to fix it:
Buy a larger flash drive with more space
or
use NLITE to trim out more things. Your list should not include Media Center, Keyboard drivers for other languages, drivers for tons of hardware you will never have (many printers, modems, etc.). Delete those crappy stock sound files and use your own. Remove Media Player 9 and just use the stock MS Media Player and then add the K-LITE codecs - smaller, faster and more types of files played. Turn off the paging file - compress the drive - lots of tricks like this mentioned elsewhere in this forum.

Just delete that crap from XP with NLITE and you will have it trimmed down to fit on a 512mb drive with 200mb left over.

Another complex method of getting extra space on these is do a split install of XP using the compact flash card to hold portions of XP. Of course, you will not be able to remove the card since the OS will crash if you do. It does offer an option to gain space. NLITE allows for the split install or multi-drive install of XP. Like I said, it's complex as it makes the CF card "C:" and the internal flash will be "D:". No problems booting XP this way.

Your tablet was designed to run Windows CE so it will be limited with XP but it will work.

For ANDROID, check the forum for notes and links to ANDROID X86 - no touch screen drivers available for DROID so it's a dead end for me.

Puppy Linux V4.31 seems to work well and there are touch drivers for it too.

New images of Debian have recently been uploaded here.

I'm more of a windows guy so I use XP trimmed down with NLITE. Drivers for your GX model are here:

Good luck!

I can't give you my software but this is how you do it yourself:

http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/12/this-t ... -slim.html

This is for the eeepc but it is the same type of thing. Remove all you can - keyboards, languages, etc. There are hundreds of examples you can get with a simple search using google. This is one of the best because it shows pictures. This example does not have all the unnecessary components removed so check those items to be removed too. Remove all you can, it could be added later after installation if needed.

Since your tablet was designed for Windows CE - it may be best to use that. CE will fit on only 512mb with a lot of space left.

If you can't get it done yourself, I can do it for you. You must send me your tablet, CDs and list of what you want on the tablet. Contact me directly for a quote so you'll know the price before you ship your tablet to me.

Advice is free - work costs money. It's a simple rule.......
