What pcmcia wifi cards are compatible with WebDT's?

Post by jwr18 »

I believe it comes with the Cisco Aironet 350 PC Card AIR-PCM352. Any others tried please post here.

I would assume the compatibility comes down to drivers more than hardware. as far as i have seen its a standard pcmcia port.

It is a driver issue. The os being booted needs to have the support for the Air One 350 pcmcia by Cisco. The current driver for this card is known not to work with WEP.

Unconfirmed but that cisco card may not play well with some linux kernels. I started to google an error I was seeing in init dealing with a:

            "missing aes lockfile _ /_/_ /_ _ _ kernel.ko"

Saw some loose references to a kernel issue but nothing solid.

I would be curious to know if any previously eliminated distributions would act differently if the card was removed.

I have a Orinoco Silver card running in my DT366 under WinCE. There is a windows CE x86 driver CAB that I wouldn't mind sharing. It all comes down to who has drivers for x86 CE, and most don't.

Whoops foot in mouth. Thanks angrymeat.

Looking back I meant to say WPA is not supported.

Sorry I was not more specific. Rockerrock mentioned the drivers for WindowsCE 5.0 and I have the same configuration. So Orinoco Silver and WindowsCE.

Take a look here.  I posted an excellent resource for drivers.

Good Luck.

I have the cisco aironet 350 and it works fine as long as i'm not at home....at home our network has a password and all I can get it to do is display a message .....the wep you entered contains invalid digits for the specified size!
I can connect elsewhere but not here at home where I need to connect. Yes I put the correct network key in the space provided and have also changed the key index number... I tried 1 thru 4 and none of them work.
It says associating with network but never connects just gives me that message...any suggestions?

ar you trying to use a pass phrase ?  I ran into that when trying to use a pass phrase instead of my wek key itself.

I think after.. several hour of searching, I have figured it out...seems that the cisco aironet card has to have very specific digits as follows...0 to 9 ...a to f or A to F The keys can be any combination of these digits.... and very
specific ..10 or 26 (10 hexadecimal digits for 40-bit WEP keys or 26 hexadecimal digits for 128-bit WEP keys) as to the number of digits allowed.
As of this post I have not tried it yet (my network admin is still sleeping) but I am fairly confident it will work when I change the router to a key combination that is accepted by the Cisco card.
