Thanks tbowland!

My two DT366's arrived today exactly as described.  The only minor thing was that the power cord had the British plug top and it was trivial to put a North American plug top on the cord....not a problem at all.

I'm looking forward to putting them into use in the ham radio and home automation fields.... I may be coming back for more in the not too distant future!

Best Regards.

Feel I should endorse these DT-366 units. I bought 2 recently, both still in original OEM box and have plastic protectors taped to the screen, pristine condition.

These units are LX-800 processors, 512/512, mini-PCI ethernet, USB 2.0. These also have the dock, rubber grips, stylus, charger. The internal batteries in both of mine were still decent as well, they hold a charge for > 1.5 hours. These are MUCH better than the used GX units that you can get on ebay. The only negative is that there are no OS license stickers on them, so the OS that you load should be from a purchase.
The shipping from Canada took about a week to Western Washington, so once he shipped it I thought that it was reasonable.

The only difficulty is that the internal battery (BIOS) is dead, but an easy replace at any decent battery retail place (got mine at Fred Myers).

Because of the BIOS battery issue, one of mine arrived in what I initially thought was DOA, but I later saw that the screen was so dim that I could barely see the faint text . I then booted into the bios (F1) to set the brightness, but still it did not brighten the screen.

I then ghosted a known good image (From the first one that I bought and built) and then I was able to use the brightness adjust (hard button 3 & Vol+), and wham, everything was beautiful.

I was able to use nLite to create an XP image that results in > 150 MB free after the install. I configured the install to use an external fast USB (8 GB) for both programs and temp, and I can load anything without using the precious 512 MB Disk. Just get a super small USB, I recommend this Lacie MosKeyto from Amazon, as it is only large enough to cover the USB port and not stick out at all

I also got an external battery from here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370304492628&ssPageName=ADME:L:PMR:US:1123

The picture shows a beat up one, but mine appeared to be brand new, and with both batteries I get > 5 hours of run time. I offered $20 and he accepted immediately.

hi ShortMan, thank you for the info.  I am still on the fence re. buying this unit, but your input helps a lot.

A question - what do you mean internal battery (BIOS) is dead?  Is it different from the internal batteries you mention earlier in the post that "are still decent"?  Sorry if this is basic knowledge to everyone else, I built software, not hardware, so this is a new type of project for me.

The internal battery is a small coin-shaped non-rechargeable CR-xxx lithium battery that is installed on the motherboard to preserve the BIOS settings, even if the internal or external rechargeable batteries are drained completely.

they are readily available for about $2-3. They are the same battery type that watches use. You would just have to open it up and replace it with the same or equivalent battery. Although replacing the battery would not be required, you would have to keep resetting the date and time, as well as any custom settings (boot device, display properties, etc.)  every time your rechargeable battery drained, as they would reset to factory defaults.

They are only dead because the computers have been sitting new and unused in a box for a few years.

Ted,

Do these units have bluetooth or has the bluetooth been replaced by the B/G wireless card? Do they still have CF card and PCMCIA slots? Any idea as to shipping to Sussex New Burnswick?

Do you still have some left?

Do you have any DT360"s for sale? If so how much?

Hey plane_crazy,

Please pardon if I pipe in here but I just posted internal pics of the lx800 hardware. I think they may answer some of our questions. http://webdt.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=0.msg3624#msg3624

No pcmcia but yes on bluetooth. Instead we get a mini pci g card from intel that is very popular amongst the hacking community. CF card slot is still there.
