XP Install misery

Post by Zeke »

Hi
First, thanks to all at this forum.
I did  Ghost a backup of CE to a flash drive,
thanks to the help here. Using CE has made me want XP.
Leading me here.

To get XP on there, I followed various leads  here, creating an embedded XP,
learned and used Barts PE, first tried both booting off of USB stick, then CD Rom.
No.

My machine has:
BIOS  XpressROM_BIOS_DT366_0.01.18.
Matt mentions on another thread, this will boot to USB.
I can confrim that.
Each install off the USB stick starts up fine, then blue screens at the same point
with the  error mentioned elsewhere on this forum. It does not matter which hub,
powered or not.

I  next ordered the CD Rom USB/IDE cable converter setup from
ebay mentioned on this forum as working, and my 366 will  not see it
from either hub, or via two keyboards with USB outs i tried.

The 366 does see the CD and boots the install disk when
plugged directly into the 366.
Can one install XP without a keyboard, at all?
I am thinking the very first step, "Press any key to boot CD Rom" will stop me?
************

Which USB Hub works for folks installing via CDRom?
Should CDRom be Master/Slave/CS?

BIOS?
Is there any reason to believe changing/upgrading the BIOS would help?
Anyone get a different result from a similar issue by messing with that?
I would prefer not to do that, of course.

Thanks for any thoughts and help on this.
later.

any hub should work. I used the cheap walmart brand. Try hooking the power usb of your cdrom to your desktop and see if your keyboard works then.

Joe, I am using an IDE to USB adapter setup that includes a  power supply.

What is the brand/model of yours? Thanks.
