I'm interested in install Windows XP in my DT366, but I have a question, It's posible install apps in a USB? Can I run portable apps?
If I have portable apps I can put all the aplications on a USB flash drive and I have free memory in the tablet.

Yes, portable apps are great for the DT366 either from a USB drive or from the internal compact flash card - if you have one. I run them all the time. You can run XP embedded in locked mode (read only) and run the portable apps with no problems since they do not try to write to the system drive.

It's a great choice.

If you need help getting XP on it, let me know.

Good luck with it. -Dave

I suggest you read up on XPe - here's some great info:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library ... ed.5).aspx

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedde ... opers.aspx

The EWF filter enabled or disabled with allow you to lock the OS or unlock to make changes. EWF enabled=locked, EWF disabled = unlocked.

You can convert an XP Pro installatation to an embedded system for reduced writes on your flash drive. A flash drive does have a 'maximum' number of writes so reducing disk writes will extend the life of your flash drive.

Let me know which model you have and what you want to do then maybe I can give you more specific info.

IT student....cool...this will be a great exercise for you. Document it well and your professor will give you credit.

How to create and deploy an XPe image....
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... ed.5).aspx

There are other links on the forum for drivers. You need the drivers for the GX not the LX. Some drivers are the same but if they specify, use the GX version.

You may also want to try Puppy Linux v4.31. You can get an image to load on the 512mb drive and that version will read the PCMCIA and CF slot. There is an image in the forum for you to try with the touch screen drivers pre-installed - but where's the challenge there.....

Good luck! You' like these little tablets.

Begin at Microsoft's MSDN for the best advice on creating and deploying an XPe image.

Go here:

This is where to begin.

Good luck. -Dave

First, set up your bare metal computer with all of the peripherals you intend the final device to have. Next, insert Windows XP Embedded installation disc 1 into the CD-ROM drive of the target computer and boot to WinPE. When the computer is in the WinPE environment, navigate to the \XPE directory and run TAP.exe with the following parameters to save the devices.PMQ file to a floppy drive:
this text is of the WebPage

But how I download WinPE environment? And For create one Win XPe I need to boot on the tablet?

This thread was about portable apps - there are other threads on the forum about XPe.

I typed your question into google.com and this answer was near the top:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... n&id=17433

This is where you will find the download and basic instructions. For specific information, read the info on MSDN where the first link goes.

If you do not know how to make an XPe image, don't try to put XPe on your tablet. Use XP Pro or one of the trimmed down versions like Micro XP or XP Lite. If you have never worked with XP then use Puppy Linux.

Read the other threads in this forum for info on how to load an operation system on your tablet.

By the way, I love portable apps!
