Reset back to factory settings or do a clean install

Reset back to factory settings or do a clean install

Postby nowatney » Thu Aug 26, 2010 8:21 am

I just picked up two used Tablet PCs (DT360/Atigo S & DT375/Atigo M) that we are trying to incorporate into our business. Neither one of them came with a manual or software. I am trying to do a hard reset to get back to the factory operating system or other information on how to do a clean install of Windows XP Tablet PC. Appreciate any help with this.

Did you manage to fix this? I have a DT360 with corrupt OS, will not boot, cannot do anything. Any ideas?

As mentioned by rectic in the BIOS discussion...
If you press the hidden "reset" button (under the round label at top left, when viewed from the back) while pressing the left two front panel buttons, you are placed in to "loader" mode. (Simultaneous Reset/Kbd/Home, from power off) You may have to fiddle with the sequence and duration a bit...

Loader mode has options for WinCE OS, Clean Registry, Clean File System, EBoot, and USB update.

My system was "locked" in a WinCE healthcare application when I got it, every boot would reset any changes. Using "Clean Registry" combined with editing some of the start up scripts got me to the point where I can at least see external USB drives and land files on the system, but that is about it... I will probably use this one as a picture frame... Still not bad for $20...

Has anyone had any luck with the other "loader" settings?

Not much room for other os choices. Maybe TinyCore... I have no idea how to install it though...

You don't have to press and hold the reset button in the back.  First you power off the 375 - not standby.  Do this by pressing and holding the power button.  Once the device is "off" then press the front buttons number 1 and 2 together THEN press and hold the power button.  By holding all three for 2 seconds you will go into the updater mode.  This is useful for clearing the registry if you don't have the cradle to uninstall the apps.  Of course, the apps are still on the device, just cleared out of the registry.  See AS below......

I don't have any data on the update protocol  - wish I did.

The next item is to use the cradle to connect to your desktop via Active Sync.  A 375 can not sync without the cradle or at least a homemade connection.  The 368, 366 and 375 use the same model of cradle.  If your cradle was sold with/for a unit other than the 375 then the USB connection to your host will have a small sticker over it on the left side of the cradle.  Just remove the sticker to reveal a USB printer-type connection.

You must install the old version of active sync - version 3.5b worked for me because you need the old USB drivers.  After V3.5b is installed then you can update to current (V4.5).

Once AS is running, you put the 375 in the cradle, power it on and press front button 2 to start the the sync.  If it doesn't work check the button setting in the control panel.  First time you need to setup a relationship - just follow the instructions.  I did this part on V3.5 and then did the upgrade but I don't think it should matter - it's the old drivers that are needed.  Once the relationship is setup then you can uninstall/install CE programs but there are not many to be found.  I have VNC installed on the 375 and that allows access to my other computers running VNC.  There are a few games but they really suck.  Like I said, CE is pretty limited unless you write your own programs for CE.  My 375 can surf the web (.mobi mode) and stream music from 1.fm and 181.fm - to mention a few.  375s have great battery life.  I have my default web page as the tv listings and it sits on the couch most of the time.  I also access my email - not bad for it's limitations and cheap price.  They usually sell for $20-$40 based on if they have the cradle or not.  Oh yes, MSN messenger works too.

AS will set the clock on the 375 but CE uses the old daylight savings routine.  You'll be off an hour until the old and new time routines overlap.

Filehippo is a good source for old versions of software or just use google to find the old versions.  I think I downloaded them both from MS but not sure.  If you can't find them I can email you the files directly.  The old version with the drivers you need is around 7mb where the others are 4mb +/-.

Hope this helps,  -Dave

Thanks for the tip on the power button vs. reset button. The power button is bad on my 375, so the method I described works for me...

I have a couple of WebDT 375 and need some help. I have the docking station as that seems to be necessary for transferring data.

I would like to do a clean install of the winCE.net 4.2 operating system if possible.

I have one that has the "odyssey client" installed and I can get this on my home network using the client and it work okay. However the other I get an error "this version of WLM requires version 5.40.xx or newer to support EAP-FAST" upon start up. Is there a way to get this online and resolve the error message.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan
