SlackXFCEWebDT2, fourth working version of Slackware linux for the webdt366

Post by quotaholic »

This edition features a wifi connection utility, netgo.

Based on Slackware 12.0 this may be the last edition that I built upon 12.0. Penmount announced the release of a new driver that covers 2.6.29 kernel version. I will focus my efforts in that direction from this point forward.

This image is set up to use 16mb of video ram ram. Please take a moment to verify that your bios video ram allocation is set to 16mb.

Included software:

XFCE Desktop environment
             includes: Thunar file manager
                           Orage Calendar and scheduling
                           Mousepad text editor
                           Login and powerdown management
                           Desktop icon and wallpaper support

Gqview - Image browser
Xine - Multi media player
Xvkbd - On screen keyboard
Xcalc - Calcuator
MC - File manager
Opera - Web Browser
BitchX - IRC Chat
NMapFe - Network mapping utility
Kismet - Wifi Scanner
NetGo - Wifi Settings Manager / connection dialog.

****NetGo does not support wpa at this time. This edition of SlackXFCE does not include extra wireless drivers so this utility will work well for those with cisco cards.
Wpa_supplicant is included in the distribution so if you need wpa you will need to configure using the command line.

This operating system takes up 395mb
leaving 98 megs free.

I suggest to anyone whos interested in keeping this around for a while to get a flash card and put sym links for some of your variable folders on to the card. Keeping about a 30 percent free space zone is healthy. Folders like home, var and tmp, are good ones to move as they often grow in size.

I am rather new to kismet and despite my efforts I can not get it configured correctly. If someone who knows this software could post a quick how to on getting this set up that would be appreciated.

Images have been removed due to bad testing reports.

I had a computer problem this week and had to use a different method to compress and upload. As a result I do not have any md5sums to offer.

Problem with x server

Post by vinograd19 »

I have a problem with this image. It boots, but Xserver don't start. It writes something like "can't load libpcidata module". I didn't found a solution for that.

Thanks for letting me know about this. My apologies. I will take down the image and try to get something better in its place as soon as I can. Typing this on a debian lenny and everything seems to be working pretty well. Just need to do some more config work and it will be ready to go.
