Boot problem with DT366LX

So, the problem is that with all the flash drives I found around  - one old 256MB and one 8GB - I can't make the DT boot from either one. I played with the BIOS settings a bit - set the USB Hard Drive/Flash Drive to be the first boot device but it was no good. I downloaded the archive that makes a flash look like a bootable CD, but this also didn't work.
And right now I have a fully charged DT366LX with no clue how to put anything on it, since I can get it boot from a flash drive.Oh, all my attempts were at booting a live linux - I tried Slax, DSL, Ubuntu...

I will appreciate any help :)

Are your flash drives USB type?

The DT can't boot directly to Compact Flash card.

Have you verified the USB drive will boot in another PC?

Do you have a USB CD ROM drive?  This works great for booting live CD's.

Have you tried booting to the USB drive with no additional hub or devices attached?  Some hubs don't play nice, also some added peripherals don't play well.  Sometimes you need to let it boot then plug in the USB keyboard/mouse devices.

The drives are USB drives, and yes I checked if they boot on my laptop. I don't have a USB CD-ROM, but I'm wokring to get one soon. I tried to boot with the usb stick plugged in a hub and directly in the cradle( I have a charging cradle) and still, I can't get it to boot.

I achieved a moderate progress in this problem. I found out, that when the internal flash is not presnt the DT boots from one of my USB sticks without any problem (I made my breakthrough when fiddling with a 4GB replacement flash module).

Can anyone tell me one what can cause this to happen?

If your internal flash is defective, it may stop the unit from fully posting, hence not bootable from any device.

Try removing the internal flash from the boot list completely, just put USB/Flash as 1, and USB CDROM as 2.  See if that helps with the internal installed.  If it still won't boot, I'd suspect the internal flash is defective.

I removed the internal flash from the boot list as you said. And then it says: "No boot device found. Halting". I suspect the internal flash could be defective(again as you've said). But the strange thing is that I put the 4GB flash DOM I have and it acted exactly the same way as with the original one. I will check out the topics regarding the flash replacement to see if I have missed something.

The boot problem seems to be caused by the internal flash module. After I have removed it and followed a topic by drc-wartex regarding running an OS directly from USB, i succeeded in booting the device. I have installed all the drivers and it's working fine for now. Except for the hardware buttons, but I've started a different thread about that.

I have a charging cradle, that gives the DT an overall count of 3 usb ports and I was thniking of embedding a dismantled USB hub and a compact USB flash drive in the place of the defective internal module. The hub's goal is to keep the existing port on the left side of the device usable. If I achieve some success in this I'll most probably try to make some more compact representation of the usb ports on the charging cradle.
