NOTE: It is possible to use alternate drives on this bus by not using pins 41 and 42. these leads can be powered alternately from the usb 5v. please note that usb only allows up to 500mA. Also you can connect to a 40 pin ide channel by not making connections to the last 4 pins ie standard hard drive.

I have tried to connect a standard hard drive via a 40 pin cable soldered directly to the board. The bios will recognize this drive, however I have not been cleaver enouch to get it to allow me partition it. when running fdisk under dos, I get a Integer devide by zero error and when i use the /x switch, i can partition the drive but after reboot, it is not there anymore. Not sure what is happening there. Perhaps I will try with a laptop hard drive. :)
