Again, this is probably a Hardware post.

Perhaps this post should be moved to the Hardware section. Who can do that?

Re: Debian
Well last night I managed to get a very basic debian Lenny installed and booted on webDT but even with only base-install (no X or webdt special drivers or even Standard-System selected) the install was about 400Meg with a very basic X it is now about 600Meg. I'm not sure if this can be trimmed much ...

Re: Booting From USB
Thanks Fleegman, I think I have it figured out. It looks like when debian was installing grub it got the hard-drives mixed up some how. My work around was to install the entrire thing on a second computer (disabling the controller that has the real HD so that it does not even show up). The big plus...

Booting From USB
Has anyone managed to boot a DT366 from USB using native Linux as the file system? I can boot a USB stick with FAT partition (Eg ghost restore stick) no problems and can even boot from a USB cdrom but try as I might I can not seem to get a stick to boot if it contains just Linux partitions and Grub ...

Re: Long live the Flash Drive-Wear Leveling
Many flash devices now have wear leveling build in so will last quite some time. I am not sure if this is the case with the internal flash on the dt366. If however you are concerned you could always run main OS / and /usr of the internal disk in read only mode and mount /var and /home on a CF card. ...

Re: Messed up tablet?
Perhaps after the reboot it is trying to drive the screen at to high a res. Try adding vga=771 at the begining of the kernel boot options.

Re: Debian
Not so good i'm afraid, I now have an install recipe that seems to install all the way through but for some my dt366 did not detect the installed device as a bootable usb drive. I even booted into rescue mode and tried to reinstall GRUB. I am however thinking along your lines and I am attempting to ...

Re: Case MOD - Housing USB Flash Drives Internally
Wow now you mention it I see the differences. I understand not wanting to break a working unit and thanks for the pics, they are a good place to start. I can probably trace +5V and GND when I get to it. At the moment im still fighting with trying to install a xubuntu 8.10
Thanks again

Now I think about it, these things look awfully similar to some of the units I have seen in police cruisers.

Re: Case MOD - Housing USB Flash Drives Internally
Dark, I cant quite work out where all 4 wires solder and which is which. The best I can make out is: J3? Pin1 (furthest right of set) is V+ and connected to Pin 1 on the Male USB J2 Pin1 (furthest right of set) is D- and connected to Pin 2 on the Male USB J2 Pin 2 is D+ and connected to Pin 3 on...

Description says Right Angle but the picture looks like a straight through to me. If it does end up being a right angle let us know.

I know what you mean, I left a Xubuntu 8.10 install running when I went to work this morning, can't wait to see if it works.
